  • ·        Answer the following questions in one or two sentences.

1)     Why was Kezia afraid of her father?

Ans. Kezia was afraid of father of her father because he was very strict and he always gave command to her. She could not speak freely because of her father’s rude nature. She used to wait her father departure from the house. When he yawned, she was thinking her father was like a giant.

2)     Who were the people in Kezia family?

Ans. There were Kezia’s father, mother and grandmother in her family.

3)     What was Kezia's father routine?

A.    before going to his office

B.     after coming back from his office?

C.     on Sundays?

        Ans.

A.    Before going to office her father went into her room and gave her casual kiss.

B.     After coming back from the office, her father gave ordered to her to bring newspaper, slipper and tea. Kezia also pulled off her father shoes.  

C.     On Sunday Kezia always found that her mother was reading something while her father was lying on the sofa and the handkerchief was also on his face. His feet were on the cushions and he was snoring heavily.  

4)     In what ways did Kezia's grandmother encourage her to get to know her father better?

Ans. Kezia’s grandmother had done many good efforts to encourage her to understand her father very well. On Sunday afternoons she sent Kezia to the drawing room to have a nice talk with her father. One day she suggested Kezia that her father’s birthday was going to come on next month so, she gave advise to her to make a pin-cushion for a birthday gift to her father. 

  • Discuss these questions in class with your teacher and then write down your answers in two or three paragraph each.

 

    1)     Kezia's efforts to please her father resulted in displeasing him very much. How did this happen?

Ans. Kezia had tried a lot to please her father but she didn’t get success at all. As her father’s birthday was coming to next month and her grandmother told her that she should make a pin-cushion. So, she decided to give a surprise gift to her father. Therefore, she decided to make a pin-cushion and for this she stitched three sides of it. To fill the pin-cushion she tore many sheets of fine paper. Unfortunately, the papers were very important documents of her father. So, nothing could go in her side. She was scolded by her father and she felt very displeased.

  

2)     Kezia decides that there are ''different kinds of fathers''. What kind of father Mr. Macdonald, and how was he different from Kezia's father?

Ans. According to Kezia’s thinking, there are different kinds of father and yes, she is quite right. All fathers are not same and many parents do not give proper attention to their children so the children think that their parents don’t love them.

In contrast with her father, MacDonald was a loving and good father to his children. He had five children but he spent time with them by playing ‘tag’, by picking up them on shoulder. They all look very happy. So, this scene is being seen by Kezia and she decided that there were different kinds of fathers.

 

3)     How does Kazia begin to see her father as a human being who needs her sympathy?  

Ans. Ever child wants sympathy from their parents. Kezia’s all efforts went into vain to please her father. Once she was alone with her cook, Alice. Kezia had a nightmare of the butcher with the knife and a rope who is coming nearer and nearer smiling dreadfully. Suddenly, she woke up and saw her father is beside her bed, a candle in his hand. Her father caught up her in his arms and carrying her along the passage to the bedroom. Her father slept beside her and he was half asleep. So, when she looked her father face, she came to know that her
